How Much Does It Cost to Become a PPF Dealer?

How Much Does It Cost to Become a PPF Dealer?

Ask a paint protection film supplier what a dealer account costs and you will usually get a phone number instead of a number. That isn't always evasion — pricing genuinely does vary by volume — but it makes planning hard, and it burns a week of calls before you find out whether the program is even in your range.

So here is the straight version: what you actually pay to open a PPF dealer account, using published figures wherever we have them. Where a number depends on your account level, we say so.

The four things you actually pay for

Every PPF dealer account, at any supplier, comes down to four costs:

  1. The opening order — the film itself, and the minimum quantity required to open the account
  2. Freight — rolls are oversized and awkward, and this is the line most shops forget
  3. Tools and consumables — slip solution, squeegees, towels, a colour deck to sell from
  4. Everything that isn't your supplier's — plotter, pattern software, training, bay space, insurance

Only the first three come from your film supplier. The fourth is usually the bigger number, and it's worth separating the two before you start comparing programs.

1. The opening order

This is the real gate. Most suppliers set a minimum quantity of film you have to buy to open an account, and that minimum is what decides whether a program is reachable for a two-bay shop or built for distributors.

At LUXE there are four account levels, and the opening commitment is the main thing separating them:

  • Certified Installer — no opening commitment. Buy at dealer pricing and order what you need, when you need it. No minimum roll count to open.
  • Elite Dealer — 3 rolls. Chosen from Gloss is Boss, Stealth Matte or Color Series. Pricing steps up materially across the whole range.
  • Authorized Stocking Distributor — 10 to 20 rolls. Resale rights begin here, along with an assigned area.
  • Regional Hub — 50 rolls. The strongest economics in the program, with eligibility for a protected region.

Most shops open at Certified or Elite. If you're installing a handful of cars a month, Certified exists precisely so you aren't forced to buy a pallet of film you can't turn.

What a roll costs

A standard roll is 60 inches by 50 feet — 250 square feet of film. How many jobs that covers depends entirely on the vehicles you take and how tightly you nest your patterns, so run that against your own job mix rather than a supplier's example.

Our public list prices, current at the time of writing:

Those are list prices, not dealer prices. Every account level buys below them, and the gap widens as you move up the tiers. We quote your actual pricing when you apply, because it depends on the level you open at. Treat the figures above as a ceiling, not an estimate.

2. Freight — the line everyone forgets

A roll weighs about 21 pounds, which sounds trivial until you remember it's five feet long. Carriers bill oversized freight on dimensions as much as weight, and a shop that budgets for film but not for shipping gets an unwelcome surprise at checkout.

We publish flat freight rates to the continental U.S. so there's no guessing:

  • 1 roll — $178
  • 2 rolls — $348
  • 3 rolls — $497
  • 5 rolls — $845
  • 10 rolls — $1,690

Watch what happens as the count climbs: freight drops from $178 a roll to $169. Consolidating orders is worth real money, and it's one of the quieter arguments for opening at a level where you buy three at a time instead of one.

3. Tools and consumables

Modest numbers individually, but they're part of opening and they stack up on the first order:

  • GLIDE InstaGel slip solution — $32 for 32 oz, $84 for a three-pack, $69 for a one-gallon refill
  • Installer Starter Kit — $89
  • Complete Shop Kit — $149
  • Squeegee set of five — $13.55
  • Dual-pile microfiber towels — $18.85
  • Color Series deck — $40

The colour deck earns its keep faster than anything else on that list. Customers who can touch forty finishes make decisions. Customers looking at a screen ask to think about it.

4. The costs that aren't your supplier's

Be honest about these before you commit to an opening order, because they're usually the larger half:

  • Plotter and pattern software. The biggest single capital item for most new PPF shops, with an ongoing subscription on top.
  • Training. Either a paid course, or three ruined hoods learning on your own car.
  • Bay space. Clean, lit, temperature-controlled, out of the wind.
  • Insurance. You're taking custody of vehicles worth more than your building.

A worked example

A two-bay detail shop opening at Elite with three rolls of Color Series, a shop kit and a colour deck:

  • 3 rolls at list — $4,650
  • Freight — $497
  • Complete Shop Kit — $149
  • Color Series deck — $40

That lands around $5,300 at list. Your Elite pricing comes in under the film figure, so the real number is lower — but this is the shape of it, and it's enough to decide whether the conversation is worth having.

Open at Certified instead and there's no opening order at all. One roll plus freight — under $1,700 — gets you a live account at dealer pricing.

What you shouldn't be paying for

Some things get charged in this industry that you can reasonably push back on:

  • An application fee. A supplier charging you to apply is monetising the wrong thing.
  • A mandatory certification course before you're allowed to buy. Training is genuinely valuable. Paying for a certificate as the price of entry is a different product. We don't require one.
  • Territory, upfront. Exclusivity sold at signing, before you've shipped anything, is a fee dressed as a privilege. It should be earned on performance and written into an addendum — which is how ours works.

The short answer

Roughly $1,700 to $5,500 to open a working PPF account with film, freight and tools on the first order — depending on whether you start at Certified or Elite, and before dealer pricing is applied. Distributor and Regional Hub run higher, because they're buying stock to resell rather than to install.

If you want your actual number, compare the four account levels and tell us what you run. We quote account pricing, usually within one business day.
